Every series has that character in it, and every time it annoys me. All she does is mess everything up and cause me stress as IвЂ™m hoping their plans will go perfectly. But from the short flashback clips and their personalities, you get a feel for why they are seeking revenge on the government. We donвЂ™t learn all about their past until the later episodes. Obviously, shortly after the main intro action we do need to start learning a little about the characters. What you do need to know is that they mean business. You donвЂ™t need to know who the main characters are right away. Which is the perfect start to how the series will continue. The thing that really confounds me about this series isnвЂ™t what is going on or what character fulfils what roles, itвЂ™s the simple question what the purpose of all this is supposed to be. Sure, but some cautionary tales really work better without any empirical evidence. But due to the fact that Watanabe (or one of the other writers) donвЂ™t really understand what makes the shows tick that inspired this series, Zankyou no Terror has become the shallow affair that it is. One thing I suspect is happening here after reading this interview of the seriesвЂ™ director Watanabe is that this series wants to be like an US-action-TV-show вЂ“ except that itвЂ™s in Japan and that it has anime-elements like its reliance on teenager-protagonists for example. And yet here we are: 7th episode вЂ“ and still thereвЂ™s no significant story-beat to put all this nonsense in order. Even if my experience with various tropes would help me to fill in the blanks for this series flawed storytelling, I really wouldnвЂ™t think that this would be an excuse for what this series is doing. And if a series does SO little to explain its story, I really donвЂ™t feel like doing the work for it. There are a couple hints вЂ“ but thereвЂ™s nothing definite. After seven (of 11 or so) episodes IвЂ™m still not sure what the story is supposed to be. I really donвЂ™t have the patience anymore to put up with this seriesвЂ™ bullshit. Actually, why ARE Nine and Twelve called terrorists in the first placeвЂ¦?! Time was when you needed a cause to become a terrorist.
